Credit Card Updater

Credit Card Updater from Blackbaud Merchant Services helps you avoid disruptions in recurring giving by keeping your supporters' credit cards up to date. When new card info is available, Credit Card Updater automatically and securely updates the card in your Blackbaud solution. This minimizes the loss of recurring payments and saves you significant time on donor outreach and data entry.

Card details are reviewed:

  • In real time when cardholders submit payments. For example, if a cardholder uses an updated credit card number to pay for a donation, Credit Card Updater automatically updates the card if its info is stored in your Blackbaud solution.

  • Weekly for cards stored for recurring payments. For example, if an expired credit card is on file for a recurring gift, Credit Card Updater will automatically update the stored card info during its weekly scan if a new expiration date is available.

Note: Blackbaud partners with Visa Account Updater, Mastercard Automatic Billing Updater, Discover Network Account Updater, and American Express Cardrefresher to deliver the service, which is widely used in the business-to-consumer industry. Only credit cards issued by banks who participate in the service are eligible for updates.

Tip: To be notified when your account receives updates, subscribe to email notifications from the Blackbaud Merchant Services Web Portal. For more information, see Notifications.

Credit Card Updater automatically runs for all Blackbaud Merchant Services accounts and is included in your standard rate. Reporting is coming soon to the Blackbaud Merchant Services Web Portal; in the meantime, you can run reports from your Blackbaud solution. For more information, select your solution from the following list.

Credit Card Updater automatically scans stored cards in Altru, and if new card data exists, it updates the card while retaining the original payment details. You can use the Credit Card Updates ad-hoc query to track changes made by Credit Card Updater and view info such as date processed, status, and new card expiration date.

You can use the Credit Card Updates ad-hoc query to track changes made by Credit Card Updater and view info such as date processed, status, and new card expiration date.

Note: To ensure that site and constituent security work properly for the query, you must enable security for the Revenue query.

Credit Card Updater automatically scans cards in eTapestry, and if new card data exists, it updates the card while retaining the original payment details. When Credit Card Updater runs, a note displays on the Journal page from Management, My Organization with details about updated cards.

Credit Card Updater automatically scans stored cards in Luminate Online, and if new card data exists, it updates the data while retaining the original payment details.

To track updates, Luminate Online provides several reports:

  • Interaction Details Report — Lists all constituents who had a Sustaining Gift Credit Card Updater Update Received or Sustaining Gift Credit Card Updater Response interaction on their record

  • Sustaining Gift Performance Summary Report — Tracks month-over-month total dollar amount retained due to successful updates and the total dollar amount resulting from cards that returned errors because they could not be updated

  • Constituent Interactions Count Report — Tracks constituents with new billing information and constituents whose cards were not updated

Credit Card Updater automatically scans stored cards in Raiser's Edge and Raiser's Edge NXT. If new card data exists, Credit Card Updater updates the data while retaining the original payment details. In the database view, the Credit Card Updater Report displays every constituent with updated credit card information, how their information changed, and which of their gifts use the updated cards.
