Search Wildcards

Use wildcard characters in a search expression to represent one or more alphanumeric characters. It is a feature used for matching patterns. You can also find synonyms or forms of a word. Exact match and single character searches are the most popular advanced search options that use wildcards.

Exact Match

Use quotation marks (") for a precise match. For example:

  • "square plexiglas skylights": Finds content containing square plexiglas skylights but not plexiglas square skylights, plexiglas skylights, or any variant of the search phrase.

Single Character

Use the question mark (?) to replace any single character in a term. For example:

  • Wom?n: Finds all terms matching the pattern (such as woman or women).
  • b??k: Finds all four letter words starting with "b" and ending with "k" (such as book, bilk, or bark).
  • "advi?e and consent": Finds all phrases matching the pattern (such as advise and consent or advice and consent).
