SSL Certificates & Security
All sites must have an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate. The SSL certificate is bound to your site to ensure that it is genuine and the information submitted stays private and confidential.
All front end websites also have an SSL certificate. They improve the security of all sites. These sites include a Web Application Firewall (WAF) which adds protections for your site, including enhanced protection from
-
XSS (cross site scripting) attacks
-
SQL injection attacks
-
and many others.
Additionally, SSL encourages search engines (like Google) to list your school’s site higher in relevant search results. Plus, it indicates to your website’s visitors that your website and their internet browser are communicating with an encrypted link for increased safety and security.
The SSL certificate appears in the internet browser's address bar, just before your site’s URL. You may also notice a small padlock icon indicating this extra privacy.
Note: Blackbaud works with you to apply for and maintain your SSL certificates. The cost of the certificate is included in your annual maintenance fee. If you have questions regarding your SSL certificate, please contact Blackbaud Support.
