Educational Insights Recipes
With insights in Blackbaud Education Management, you can pair attributes with facts to break down totals and compare categorical data. Think of these as recipes for frequent analysis, with the facts and attributes as the main ingredients. Apply additional attribute filters to add your own flavor!

Bubble chart

Select Bubble chart.

From Facts, select Average grade for the x-axis.

From Facts, select Section enrollment for the y-axis.

Expand the options for Section enrollment, select Add attribute filter, then choose Offering type.

Select the offering types that interest you (such as Academics) and select Apply.
Scatter plot

Select Scatter plot.
-
From Facts, select Average grade for the x-axis.

From Facts, select Section enrollment for the y-axis.

Expand the options for Section enrollment, select Add attribute filter, then choose Offering type.

Select the offering types that interest you (such as Athletics and Activities) and select Apply.
Then

From Attributes, select Name.
This plots each student with their grades and extracurricular involvement.
Table (Tabular)

This same data in table form can be sorted to find the top performers in academics or contributors in extracurricular activities.

For table insights, remember that you can select a fact and filter it by one or more attributes. Then select the fact again for the next column and add one or more different filters. Use the computed fact to provide a subtotal or the difference.

Each column can be renamed to match the definition.

Number of candidates who didn't complete an application

Select Table.

From Factss, select Candidates .

Expand the options for Candidates, select Add attribute filter, then choose Candidate status.

Select Inquiry and then select Apply.

From Facts, select Candidates again.

Expand the options for Candidates, select Add attribute filter, then choose Candidate status.

Select Application complete and then select Apply.

Under the two filtered facts select + and then select + Create calculated metric.

Select outcomes is - Difference, where fact A is column one minus fact B as column two.
Total number of financial aid requests

Select Table.

From Facts, select Candidates .

Expand the options for Candidates, select Add attribute filter, then choose Financial aid requested.

Select Yes and then select Apply.

From Facts, select Candidates again.

Expand the options for Candidates, select Add attribute filter, then choose Financial aid requested.

Select No and then select Apply.

Under the two filtered facts select + and then select + Create calculated metric.

Select outcomes is + Sum, where fact A is column one plus fact B as column two.
Candidate yield

Select Table.

From Facts, select Candidates .

Expand the options for Candidates, select Add attribute filter, then choose Candidate status.

Aggregate the data

From Attributes, select Grade level as a row.

From Attributes, select Gender as a column.

Select the column header for each fact. Select the aggregate menu
that appears ("hamburger" icon of three horizonal lines).

Select Sum or Rollup (Total). The aggregate appears at the bottom of each column.

From Facts, select Students .

From Facts, select Withdrawn students.

Under the two facts select + and then select + Create calculated metric.

Select outcomes is - Difference, where fact A is column one (students) minus fact B as column two (withdrawn).

From Attributes, select School year as a Row.
-
Select Line chart to Trend by school year.
Alternatively, select Table and use a Filter to change years.

Consider creating headlines for important facts of activity as the year progresses.

Select Headline.
-
From Facts, select Current students.
-
Select Filter by date.
-
Select Enroll date and then choose a static period of the year as start and end dates, such as September 1 to June 30.
This count will increase as students join mid-year and provide a quick drill-in to a list for more information.

From Facts, select Candidates.

Expand the options for Candidates, select Add attribute filter, then choose Candidate status.

Select Inquiry and then select Apply.

Select Filter by date.

Select Status date and then Year to date and compare to same period previous year.
This provides an immediate check on the year-over-year numbers of inquiries as the admission season progresses.
Alternatively, view how the number of applications compares to previous years:

Select Line chart.

From Facts, select Candidates.

Expand the options for Candidates, select Add attribute filter, then choose Candidate status.
