As you’re likely seen in our weekly release letters, where over the past few weeks we've previewed some of the changes and enhancements coming to the Record Attendance section in Academics. While the experience largely remains the same as you’d expect, we’re overhauling the modal to use SKY UX, making it more modern looking and easier to work with.

However, that's not all! Here’s everything you and your faculty need to know:

  1. We’ve gone ahead and changed the formatting so that each student displays based on the User Name setting rather than First Name/Last Name. This change was made to allow preferred names to display more prominently.

  2. For sections and classes that have a seating chart applied, there will be a toggle that can be used to switch to a view of the classroom and where students are seated. If you want, attendance can also be taken from this view, so you don't need to continually switch back and forth.

  3. Finally, we’ve improved things for teachers who prefer a checklist-type workflow by not having your school’s equivalent of Present automatically defaulting for each student. Though, when the modal is saved, students who do not have an attendance code listed will automatically be assigned Present or whatever the equivalent value for your school is.

Record Attendance Updates

One last thing to mention is that, depending on when you’re reading this, the update may not be available yet. These features are rolling out in waves starting this week on April 30 through May 14.

That’s all for this week, but we hope you enjoyed having an early look at the changes and enhancements coming to your record attendance experience. With May on the horizon, make sure to stay tuned to this space as we have some important information coming your way soon. Talk to you then!
