Assignment Settings

Assignment types are used to organize assignments. They are also useful for reporting purposes. For example, faculty can run reports to view both major and non-major assignments that are due for students in their roster. Additionally, faculty can use assignment types to determine the cumulative grade calculation in the gradebook. 

Assignment types are added by Academic Group Managers. They are set globally (not by department or course), so be sure to add assignment types that can be used by all faculty.

To get started with Assignment Settings:

  1. From the persona menu, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades followed by Grading setup.

  3. Select Assignment settings.

  1. Under Assignment Types, select + Add Type.

  2. Enter the Assignment type (e.g. Homework).

  3. Enter the Assignment code. If Gradebook is being used, this will be the assignment's abbreviation (e.g. HW).

  4. If your school considers this to be a major assignment type, select Yes under Major assignment.

  5. Under Active, select Yes to activate the assignment type or No to not allow it to be used. This option can be changed at any time.

  6. Select Save.

To edit an assignment type, find it in the list beneath Assignment Types and select the pencil icon.

To delete an assignment type, select the trash bin icon.

Note: If a lock icon appears beside an assignment type, you are unable to delete it.

Under Assignment defaults, customize the following settings for the Assignment Center used by faculty.

All of the default settings can be overridden by faculty while viewing their Assignment Center.

  • Assignment Default Assigned Time: When a faculty member adds a new assignment and applies it to a section, the Assigned date will default to today's date and the time you select here.

  • Default view: Select List or Grid.

  • Grid default filter: Select Day, Week, or Month.

  • Grid default display: Select Active, Assigned, or Due.

  • List default due filter: The list will display assignments that are due within the timeframe you choose here.

  • List default publish status: Select Not published or Published.

  • List default sort column: Select the column by which the list will be sorted and the order it will be sorted (ascending or descending).

Under View access to student's assignments, select whether certain user types can access students' assignments. Depending how your school is set up, you may be able to specify different settings for different school levels.

Note: Academic group managers will need to set the Group Page Access if parents should not be able to view assignments on section pages or in the Activity Stream. Platform managers can also globally prevent assignments from appearing in the Activity Stream.
