Course Distinctions

A course distinction is connected to the section in which a student is enrolled. The course distinction allows a school to indicate if a student is taking a regular course but putting in work at a higher level.

For example, if some students in Spanish III are working at a higher level, such as Honors, while others are not, you can apply a distinction to some of the students in the course. Using the same course, one student's grade report can show Honors Spanish III while another student's can display Spanish III.

Note: Course distinctions do not have any impact on students' grade averages or GPA.

  1. From the persona menu in the top left, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades and then choose Grading setup.

  3. Select Course distinctions.

  4. From here, use the search bar to find a specific entry in the list or use +New to add a course distinction.

  5. Set the Distinction name, add a description (optional) and then select the Group type it should be associated with.

  6. Select Save to confirm the new Distinction or Cancel to go back without saving.

  7. Alternatively, use the context menu next to an existing Distinction and select Edit to modify the details.

  8. To remove an existing Distinction, select the context menu and then Delete. A warning message will appear before anything is permanently removed.

  1. From the persona menu in the top left, select Academics.

  2. Select Grades and then choose Grades management.

  3. Select Enter grades by student under Related links.

  4. Use the filter or search options to find the student for which you want to apply a course distinction.

  5. Under the student's name, select View beside Course Distinctions.

  6. Under Distinction, choose the appropriate distinction for the a course.

  7. Select Save & Exit

Once the course distinction is attached to a student, it is displayed on both the grade report and transcript.
