Details and exceptions
Some data imports benefit from standardized phone formatting, specifically in the General User and Phone Number types under the Contact Card-Import/Refresh category. When you add or update phone numbers using a data import, your school’s automatic phone formatting applies.
Phone numbers for your school’s default country will have the country code added automatically if you omitted them from the original import file. However, phone numbers outside of the school's default country which omit “+” and a country code before the rest of the phone number aren’t accepted by the validation process. Instead, you must add the "+" and country codes for any phone numbers outside of your school’s default country; they won’t be added automatically.
Other imports, reports, forms, and inquiries don’t use automatic formatting for phone numbers.
Phone numbers originally entered before November 18, 2025 may continue to use other formats until they are edited. New (and edited) numbers are automatically formatted.
