Here at Blackbaud, we’re always looking for new ways to engage with you and how we’re able to deliver content. From our help center, we’ve been able to create all sorts of content for you to consume, from our help documentation, how-to guides, this very Journal site you’re reading now, as well as videos to give you a visual walkthrough of new features or other topics.

Along those lines, I’m excited today to reveal our next evolution to the video style content we’re able to offer. In fact, some of you may have already seen them, as we now have a new section on the BlackbaudSupport YouTube Channel. That’s right, we’ve added YouTube Shorts.

What Are YouTube Shorts?

Let’s start at the beginning. YouTube Shorts are essentially short-form videos that are less than 180 seconds in duration and vertical in nature. If you've been on social media style sites like TikTok or Instagram, then you'll likely see some similar things with YouTube Shorts.

Obviously, with the limited video durations, these style of videos are intended to be quick and to the point, easy to view on mobile devices (like cell phones), can easily be found, and swiped through without having to click around. Essentially, you have an endless feed you can swipe through if you really wanted. However, that's not what we're here to discuss!

Why YouTube Shorts?

Listen, we know you’re busy. Sometimes, sitting through a 5 minute video walkthrough isn’t possible between everything you have going on. Mobile devices are still a major part of society these days, and these vertical videos better fit people on the go as well.

I want to be clear here as well, these short style videos aren’t replacing anything. We believe that there’s room for both, whether that’s a full walkthrough style video of a new feature, or if we just want to point something out in a short video. Naturally, it’s not a one size fits all situation either, especially when we want to provide more details or an overview on something. Short videos won’t provide that level of detail.

Videos Are Live Now!

For now, we’re using these short videos to highlight or answer common questions we see. As of right now, we have shorts focused on explaining School Forms, using Name Pronunciation, recording attendance, and more. If you’re reading this in the future (hello!) we probably have a bunch more up there at this point. Better yet, if these topics interest you, check the description as it’ll contain more information including links to relevant help topics and longer form videos.

So going forward, we hope you look forward to all of our video content. If you haven’t yet, make sure to subscribe if you’re able and be on the look out for more content coming very soon!
