Education Management Security Groups
In addition to an Education feature area, every user needs to be linked to:
-
A user in Education Management
-
One or more security groups from Education Management
When you're creating a new user, you'll either link them to an existing user or create a new user.
Note: The link between a user in an Education feature area and a user in Education Management (which includes Core) only exists in the back end to provide a successful user experience between Blackbaud solutions that share data. For example, you assign roles to the Connected Apps feature area. The data it uses is stored in Education Management. The back end link provides a way for the user to access Connected Apps with shared data from Education Management.
-
Education feature area — The latest version of the solution you access from your browser. It includes Connected Apps. It also provides a way to navigate to Blackbaud's website and other Blackbaud solutions your church uses.
-
Education Management — This includes capability and role personas, such as Core, Academics, Enrollment management, Extracurricular, School website, and Faculty. When you go to Education Management, your default starting page appears. If you already have an active session, it appears instead. The top navigation menu for Education Management personas are typically shown in your church's "school colors."
If your user already exists in Education Management, you'll want to link to an existing user:
-
Under Security groups, select Link to existing user.
-
Search for a user. If you can't find them, they either don't exist or are already linked to another user.
-
Next to Security groups, select Edit.
-
Select one or more security groups.
-
Select Send invite. Once you've successfully linked a user, you'll see the email address associated with their Blackbaud ID in the Education account column.
After you've linked a user, they have access to the Education feature area in the Blackbaud solution based on the role you select and access to Education Management based on security groups.
Tip: For more info about invitations and troubleshooting advice, see User invitation process.
If your user doesn't exist in Education Management, you'll want to create a new user:
-
Under Security groups, select Create a new user.
-
Choose one or more security groups.
-
Select Send invite. Once you've successfully linked a user, you'll the email address associated with their Blackbaud ID in the Education account column.
After you've linked a user, they have access to the Education feature area in the Blackbaud solution based on the role you select and access to Education Management based on security groups.
Tip: For more info about invitations and troubleshooting advice, see User invitation process.
Note: Education and Education Management share data, but do not share functionality. This prevents roles and security groups from overwriting each other and creating gaps in security.
