Enable Blackbaud ID for a Role and/or Specify a Domain

Platform managers use security roles and tasks within the Blackbaud Education Management products to require some users to login with Blackbaud ID. When the Blackbaud ID task is enabled for a role, any users with (at least) one of the selected roles, will be required to link a Blackbaud ID to their school account. When a role is enabled for Blackbaud ID, it can't be disabled. Any user who has at least one role with Blackbaud ID enabled is required to use Blackbaud ID to authenticate at the user's login.

Warning: Remember that if a role is enabled to use Blackbaud ID the role will always be enabled to use Blackbaud ID. A role can't be disabled from Blackbaud ID.

Therefore, we recommend you enable Blackbaud ID for roles that only apply to a few staff or administrative users first. You can also clone a role, enable the cloned role for Blackbaud ID, and add a few users to the cloned role for testing purposes. Only enable Blackbaud ID for roles that apply to many users after you have a firm understanding of how Blackbaud IDauthentication works for users at your school.

  1. To enable Blackbaud ID for a role, select Core, Security, Authentication settings, and then Blackbaud authentication.

  2. Locate the role with Blackbaud ID enabled that needs usernames.

  3. Select the ellipsis (...) and then select Edit role.

  4. Select Enabled.

  5. You can also specify an email domain.

Specifying an email domain gives you additional control over users' access to the Blackbaud's Education Management solutions. If a domain is specified, users must use email addresses from your school’s domain as their Blackbaud ID user- names. Later, you can set up a single sign-on and force users to authenticate through your Identity Provider (IdP).

If users do not use school-issued email addresses, then do not specify an email domain.

  6. Save the usernames.

You can then Enable Blackbaud ID for a Role and/or Specify a Domain to streamline the first-time login process for users with single sign on (SSO) to your identity Provider. All other users are ready to use their Blackbaud ID credentials to login.
