Enhance Assignment Feedback Using AI

Faculty can use artificial intelligence (AI) to generate feedback while grading assignments. The AI feedback generator analyzes a student’s submitted files, text, and skills associated with the assignment to create comments based on the instructions, tone, style, response length, and language you select.

Note: The Feedback Generator is only available if enabled by your administrator.

Generate AI Feedback

1. From the assignment grading page, select a student.

2. In Comments, begin entering feedback.

3. After you enter at least 50 characters, select Enhance feedback.

4. Complete the feedback form:

   • What should the feedback focus on?Enter the specific aspects of the assignment you want the feedback to address.
     

   • (Optional) Select a Rubric or from My rubrics.

   • Feedback formatting:

     • Tone: 

       • Direct

       • Positive

       • Technical

       • Curious

     • Style: 

       • Identify Describe Encourage Action

       • Critique and Compliment

       • Start / Stop / Continue

     • Response length:

       • Bullet points

       • Small (Short paragraph)

       • Medium (Long paragraph)

       • Large (Multiple paragraphs)

     • Writes feedback in: select the feedback language.

       • English

       • French

       • Spanish

       • Mandarin

       • Hebrew

       • German

       • Latin

5. Select Generate.

6. The enhanced feedback appears in the preview. Review and edit the text as needed.

7. When you are satisfied, select Add to student. The enhanced feedback replaces the text previous entered in the Comment field and you can edit it as needed.

   • To generate different feedback, select Set details to return to the form and adjust your feedback request.

Tips

• Be specific in the focus prompt to get more relevant feedback.

• Always review AI-generated text for accuracy and appropriateness.

• You can always edit generated text before or after adding it to a student's assignment.
