Assignment Center

The Assignment Center is the central location where faculty and students access assignments, assessments, and graded discussions for all courses. Teachers and students navigate to the Assignment Center by selecting My Day, then Assignment Center.

In the upper right, use the icons grid view and list view icons to switch between the List and Calendar views.

List view displays assignments in an exportable list format.

Tip: Use Preferences to set your default view of Assignment lists in the Assignment Center and the Assignments tab on class pages. Use Filter and Columns to change these list views temporarily.

  • Select the context menu next to an assignment to Edit, Make a copy, See student preview, or Delete that assignment.

  • Select Filter to change the Show assignments due and Publish status filters, as well as narrow down the included assignments by Assignment type and Class section.

  • Select Columns to choose the information that displays for each assignment.

    Tip: We recommend including the Details column in your customized view of the Assignment Center. Selecting an assignment title under Details opens the Assignment Details page where you can grade the assignment.

  • To reset Filter and Columns to the defaults, select More, then Return to default view.

More options

In addition to Return to default view, you also have these options under More:

  • Calendar feeds to import your assignments into a third-party calendar using one of that available feed options.

    Note: The Assignment Center calendar feed only includes the next 60 days of information. To include the next 12 months of data, use the persona calendar.

  • Import assignments to import previously created assignments from other school years and courses.

  • Preferences

  • Export list to export your assignments list to a .csv file.

  • Recover Assignments to restore assignments deleted by mistake.

Reports

Assignment-specific reports are available under Reports. The reports available are determined by your administrator.

In Calendar view,

  • select Month, Week, or Day to determine the date range displayed.

  • use the left arrow to navigate to past dates and the right arrow to advance the calendar to future dates.

  • select Today to return the calendar to today's date after navigating to past or future dates.

  • select Assigned to display assignments on the date they are assigned, Due to display assignments on the date they are due, or Active to display assignments spanning their Assigned date through their Due date.

  • select Filter to specify which classes are included in the calendar.

  • icons in the upper right are available for exporting calendar feeds, printing, and running assignment reports.

To access your preferences in List view, select More, then Preferences. In Calendar view, select Preferences above the calendar.

Tip: Use Preferences to set your default view of Assignment lists in the Assignment Center and class Assignments tab. Use Filter and Columns to change these list views temporarily.

You can set your defaults for the following:

  • Assignment creation: Set your default preferences for creating assignments, including Add to gradebook default, Add to cumulative grade default, and Publish grade default. Under Add assignment defaults and Add discussion defaults, you can also select specific sections of the Add Assignment and Add Discussion modals to collapse by default. These preferences are used when creating assignments from the list view for both the Assignment Center and the Assignments tab on class pages.

  • Assignment lists: Set list view defaults for your Assignment Center and Section assignments list view. You can determine which assignments display based on the due dates and publish status, as well as the sort order of your list views.

    Tip: The Assignment Center list defaults control your list view defaults in the Assignment Center only. The Section assignment list defaults control your list view defaults on the Assignments tab of your classes.

  • Assignment imports: Set permissions for who can import your assignments. By default, Allow all teachers to import your assignments is selected. You can also select Do not allow others to import your assignments or Allow selected teachers to import your assignments.

  • Google Drive: Set your notification preferences for receiving notifications when a student shares a Google Drive file. This will only affect teachers that have their Google Drive linked to their email address.

  • Evaluation: If you want the Incomplete and Missing indicators removed from an assignment once it is graded, enable the options to remove these statuses upon committing a grade.

    Note: These Evaluation preferences are user-based. For instance, if teachers co-teach a class, one teacher may elect to remove the Incomplete and Missing indicators upon saving a grade while the other teacher does not. The preference of the user committing the grade is respected.

  1. In list view, select + Add, then Assignment. In calendar view, select +Assignment or select a day on the calendar.

  2. A new window appears for you to set up the assignment, including the Title and Assignment type.

  3. Under Submission method, faculty can determine if students can submit in-system files online for the assignment, submit the assignment on paper, or if they'd like to use an LTI to allow students to submit files.

  4. Under Assignment Instances, teachers can also create multiple instances of the assignment to use throughout the course of a term.

  5. Publishing options can be set as well. When an assignment is set to publish, the assignment will be available to the students in the selected course on the selected date and time.

  6. Select Save when finished.

In list view, select the context menu next to the assignment, then select Edit to open the assignment setup page.

In calendar view, select the assignment tile, not the assignment name, to open the assignment setup.

Warning: If you publish an assignment with online submissions and then unpublish it, if it is republished, any submitted online submissions will no longer appear.

In both list and calendar view, select an assignment name to open the Assignment Details page where you can enter grades and feedback, mark gradebook indicators, view Discussions, annotate file submissions, and more. Teachers can delete assignments even if grades have been recorded. Deleting an assignment removes any student submissions, files, Google Drive links, submitted text, grades, comments, and evaluations associated with the assignment. If an assignment is included in gradebook calculations, the calculations are rerun upon deleting the assignment.

  1. From the list view of the Assignment Center or Assignments tab on a class page, select the context menu next to the assignment, then select Delete.

  2. Select the course section(s) you want to delete the assignment from.

  3. Select Yes, delete for the selected sections to complete the deletion.

You can also delete an assignment from the gradebook by selecting the down arrow in the assignment column, then selecting Delete.
