About the Blackbaud Giving Fund
The Blackbaud Giving Fund (BBGF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that powers philanthropy by connecting donors and charities.
On August 1, 2020, YourCause began partnering with BBGF. This relationship allows us to continue issuing donors a tax acknowledgment at the time the donors make the donation. It also continues our ability for vetting charities through our vetting portal, NPOconnect, and assuring compliance with IRS regulations.
What is the relationship between YourCause and the Blackbaud Giving Fund?
The Blackbaud Giving Fund is a 501(c)3 Public Charity and the sponsoring organization for a Donor Advised Fund (DAF). Donations made via YourCause are legally made to BBGF and they would issue the tax acknowledgment.
BBGF uses the donor’s charity selection to make a corresponding grant to such charity in the amount of the donor's original donation. It operates exclusively for charitable purposes, and it is a legal entity separate from and independent of Blackbaud.
What is a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)?
A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a type of giving program administered by a third party that allows donors to receive immediate tax benefits (donations treated as tax-deductible charitable contributions) with the flexibility to easily support their favorite charities.
Note: For more information, see the What is a Donor Advised Fund? resource.
How does this apply to my organization?
The use of the Blackbaud Giving Fund (BBGF) is only relevant to those clients who have chosen to process their payments through YourCause. For instance, if a client chose Client and YourCause or just YourCause as their payment processor (i.e., Clients > Settings > Processor), then they will receive funds through BBGF as long as they adhere to the rules and regulations of this entity. Clients who have chosen to process payments themselves will not receive funds through BBGF.
