Visual Studio Versions for Custom Packages
To work with Business Intelligence Projects, you must install a version of Visual Studio that supports Business Intelligence projects and select the Business Intelligence options when you install SQL Server Management Studio.
You can use SQL Server 2014 or later, and you can manage custom SSIS packages with a Business Intelligence project in Visual Studio 2017, Visual Studio 2019, or Visual Studio 2022. However, starting with Service Pack 33, the Infinity SDK only supports Visual Studio 2022 because of breaking changes in Visual Studio. You must also install the SQL Server Integration Services Projects 2022 and Microsoft Analysis Services Projects 2022 extensions. For more information, see the SDK environment setup instructions.
Warning: Because we upgraded our SSIS packages solution to be compatible with SQL Server 2014 or later and with Visual Studio 2017, Visual Studio 2019, or Visual Studio 2022, SSIS ETL packages are no longer compatible with SQL Server 2012 or with versions of Visual Studio older than 2017.
