A-Grade Browsers

A-grade browsers are browsers that support 100% of the Web Shell feature set with no compromises. While there may be minor cosmetic differences such as the appearance of a disabled button in one browser vs. another or the absence of visual effects like drop shadows that are not supported by some browsers, Web Shell should work equally well* and present no barriers to the user in terms of the full Web Shell experience. Web Shell should be tested in all of these browsers, and both cosmetic and functional issues found using these browsers should be treated with the highest priority in relation to C- or X-grade browsers.

The A-grade browsers include:

  • Internet Explorer 9 32-bit (Windows Vista/7)

  • Internet Explorer 8 32-bit* (Windows XP/Vista/7)

  • Firefox 4 (Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS 10.6+)

  • Google Chrome** (Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS 10.6+)

  • Safari 5 (Mac OS 10.6+)

Note: *Due to its slower JavaScript and DOM rendering engines, IE8 may perform noticeably slower than other A-grade browsers in some more UI-intensive areas of Web Shell, such as relationship maps or ad-hoc query. IE8 is also more likely to differ visually from other A-grade browsers because of certain CSS properties like box-shadow that are not supported by the browser. However, because of its ubiquity in our market, IE8 must still be considered an A-grade browser in terms of the level of testing and priority of bugs filed against it.

Note: **No version is provided for Google Chrome because updates are almost always automatically downloaded and installed for Chrome users, ensuring that users are on the latest version.
