Add a Dynamic Ask Component

The Dynamic Ask component is used to calculate a suggested donation that is different for each constituent, depending on his or her giving history. If you have included a user-entered giving level as part of a Donation Form, you can link to the form with the Dynamic Ask component. You can include the component once to ask for a single suggested amount, or repeatedly to ask for something like the following:  “If you could give $50, $75 or even $100 you could provide support for ….”   The “Other Amount” on your donation form will pre-fill with the amount on which the donor clicks.

The Dynamic Ask component can also calculate a suggested donation not linked to a donation form. This approach might be useful in a message introducing several donation forms where you suggest that constituents give the calculated amount to the cause that interests them most.

To Add a Dynamic Ask Component:

  1. Create and publish a Donation Form if you would like to link the component to a form. Be sure to include an “Other Amount” on the form.

  2. Access the Content Editor window.

  3. Type the text to introduce the component.

  4. Place the cursor where you would like to insert the suggested donation.

  5. Click , Components.

  6. Click Donation > Dynamic Ask. The Embedded Component Selector for Dynamic Ask page displays.

  7. Select Link to this Donation Form > Donation Form.

  8. Choose whether to Start the calculation with the donor’s:

  9. Type a default minimum value in case the user has not previously contributed or if previous giving was at a very low level.

  10. Provide a percentage, a dollar amount, or both that you would like to add to the base amount.

  11. Set the figure to which to round the final suggested amount. This is set initially to the nearest multiple of $5.00, but you can change it.

  12. Click Insert to place the component on your page:

  13. Note: The user will only see the text you enter and the calculated dollar amount, which will link to your donation form.

  14. Complete the sentence and/or punctuation for the sentence, or add the component again with a calculation that asks for a higher percentage or dollar amount.

  15. Warning: The component supplies only the calculated dollar amount so you will need to provide all surrounding text and punctuation.

  16. Save changes and preview your work.
