Upload a File to the Document Library

You can upload a file from your computer or a shared network resource. The Document Type that you specify must match the file extension of the file or the upload process will fail and the system will display an error message.

To upload a file to the Document Library

  1. Go to Library > Document Library.

  2. On the Document List page in the Upload Document section:

    • For Document Title, type a phrase that identifies the file to help you locate the file in the Library.

      Example: Instead of "File1," a title such as "2022 Annual Report" may be easier to identify.

    • For Description, type a purpose or content statement to help internal administrators locate this file.

    • For Keywords, type search words or phrases separated by commas or spaces. Keywords help identify the file contents to easily locate the file.

    • For Department, type a name, if appropriate.

    • For Document Type, if the file extension is:

      • asf, click Windows Media Video

      • avi, click Microsoft Video

      • bin, click Binary Executable

      • cvs, click Microsoft Excel Document

      • doc, click Microsoft Word Document

      • eps, click PostScript Document

      • exe, click Binary Executable

      • gz, click Compressed Document

      • htm or html, click HTML Document

      • mov, click QuickTime Video

      • mpeg or mpg, click MPEG Video

      • mp3, click MPEG Audio

      • pdf, click Acrobat PDF

      • ppt, click Microsoft PowerPoint Document

      • ps, click PostScript Document

      • ra or rm, click Real Media Audio

      • tzg, click Compressed Document

      • txt, click Plain Text Document

      • wav, click WAV Audio

      • wma, click Windows Media Audio

      • wmv, click Windows Media File

      • xls, click Microsoft Excel Document

      • zip, click Compressed Document

  3. Click Browse to Find and Open the file on your computer or a shared directory.

  4. For Security Category, select the appropriate security category to restrict who can edit the document file and who can view it.

  5. Click Upload.

    The document is now available in the Document Library and displays as the initial version in the Document List.
