Insert an Anchor (Bookmark)

Anchors are often used to reposition the browser to a different section of the current page, or at a specific section in another page. For example, on a long web page, you may wish to place “go back to top” links throughout the page. When clicked, the current page would be repositioned at the top. Similarly, links at the top of a page to anchors farther down the page allow the viewer to move quickly down to the section of the page that interests them.

To create an anchor:

  1. Place the cursor where you would like to insert the anchor. (Often, this will be a heading within your content.)

  2. Click , Insert/Edit Anchor.

  3. Type the anchor name in the pop-up box. Anchor names cannot contain spaces.

  4. Click Update to return to the CMS Visual Editor window.

  5. Create a link to the anchor from elsewhere on the page:

    1. Type in the text for the link if you have not already done so (such as, “Back to top”).

    2. Highlight the link text.

    3. Click , Insert Hyperlink.

    4. In Insert/Edit Link window, select an Anchor with the down arrow.

    5. Click Insert . You will return to the CMS Visual Editor, where the selected text indicates an active link.

Note: You can also create a link to an anchor on another page. To do so, type into the field of the dialog box shown above the system name of the page, followed by a # symbol, followed by the name of the anchor. An example of this syntax would be: main_page#top.
