Advanced Search Dialog Fields

Field Description
Keywords

Enter one or more keywords to search for. Use a separator between words such as a space or a comma. If the search was originally launched from Website Explorer, this field populates with the string you entered in the Search content field.

To find a specific file, you can enter the filename as a keyword. Then select Anywhere in the item in the Look for Keywords field. Refine other search options if needed, and click Search. (If a filename has words separated by dashes or underscores, entering one of the words will find the file.)

You can also leave the Keywords field empty and run a "no keyword" search using any other search field. For example, use the File Type field to search for all files of a specific type, such as PDF.

Look for Keywords

Default: Anywhere in the item

Do one of the following:

  • Search Anywhere in the item for the Keywords you entered

  • Restrict your Keywords search to the fields you select here. Hold down the Ctrl or Shift keys to make multiple or block selections. The results will only include content items where the selected fields include the specified Keywords.

If the Content Type search field is set to Any, this list only includes the standard fields: Title, Description, and Body. If it is set to a specific content type, this list also displays manually-configured custom fields for that type. (Custom fields based on content categories or related items display as separate Advanced Search fields.)

Last Modified Between Define a date range within which files to include in the search results were last modified. These dates are independent. You can specify a begin date, an end date, or both.
First Published Between Define a date range within which files to include in the search results were first published. These dates are independent. You can specify a begin date, an end date, or both.
Web Site

Default: [current site]

Select one or more web site(s) to search within the current hostgroup. Hold down the Ctrl or Shift keys to make multiple selections. The menu only includes site where you have an administrative role.

Content Type

Default: Any

Select a base or extended content type from the drop-down menu, or keep the default. Hold down the Ctrl or Shift keys to make multiple selections.

If you select the Post/Comment base type -- or the equivalent if the type has been renamed -- the search results will include Comments (items of the Post/Comment base type).

If the Properties step for a selected type has any fields based on content categories or related items, they display as independent search fields. For example, if you select an extended content type called Marine Life which includes the category-backed field Habitat, a Habitat search field appears under the standard Advanced Search fields.

File Type

Default: Any

Search on Any file type, or restrict the search to a specific file type. Supported file types are: CSS Stylesheet (.css), GIF, JPEG, PNG, HTML, JavaScript Library, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint (Document or Template), Microsoft Word, PDF, Text Document, WebEx Recording, XML, XSL, iCalendar (.ics).

Folders

Search in one or more folders. To add a folder, click on Add folder. To remove a folder from the search list, click its Delete icon (red X).

Warning: Folders are specific to individual sites. If you use this parameter, set your Web Site parameter to a single site. Otherwise, if multiple sites are selected only the folders for the first site will be available for selection here.

Custom category or related-item fields (Available as search fields if the Properties step of a specified Content Type includes category-backed or related-item fields) Search by a content category or related item assigned as a property of an item of the specified type.
