How do I improve my search results?

When searching for an organization, it is important to remember that NPOconnect uses the information on file with the various government agencies that register charities. This means that the information in our system may not exactly match how you refer to your organization.

We recommend using the tips below to help you improve the likelihood of finding your organization in the search.

  • Search by the Federal Tax Identification Number. This is the government-issued ID used to uniquely identify charities. Examples include the Employer Identification Number (EIN) and Tax ID.

  • Check for abbreviations. For example, try searching for Co instead of County.

  • Check for spelling and concatenations. For example, try searching for FoodBank instead of Food Bank.

  • Don't use common words and punctuation. Remove words like a and the as well as punctuation like periods, commas, and dashes.

  • Don't use suffixes. For example, use bird and not birds or walk and not walked.
