Glossary for Payment Types

Individual donation types

These are donations that originate from the donor. YourCause will provide a tax receipt to the donor.

Note: The donor would receive hard credit for these donation types.

Type Description
Credit Card

Donor made a donation through YourCause to your organization via credit card.

Note: There is a 2.79% processing fee for credit card donations made through YourCause. Some clients will elect to cover the fees while others will not. It is important that you know that this fee is not charged by YourCause nor the client. It is a fee to cover credit card processors. Under Type, the transactions listed as Individual - Credit Card would have a 2.79% fee.

Payroll Donor made a donation through YourCause to your organization via payroll. Payroll One Time Donor made a donation through our portal to your organization via payroll.

 

Employer match donation types

These are donations that come from the YourCause client (company). You are not required to send the company a tax receipt.

Note: The donor would receive soft credit and the company would receive hard credit for these donation types.

Type Description
Offline Match This is a match for a donation made directly to your organization. The original donation was not through YourCause.
Credit Card Match This is a match for a credit card donation that was made through YourCause.
Payroll Match This is a match for a payroll donation that was made through YourCause.
PAC Match A PAC Match is a type of grant. It will always be funds provided by the client for the employee to designate to the charity of choice. This grant was awarded to the donor for having donated to a PAC. The original donation did not come through YourCause and was likely not to your organization.
Cause Card A Cause Card is a type of grant. It will always be funds provided by the client for the employee to designate to the charity of choice. Typically, these grants are used as incentives for volunteer participation. However, some clients have one-off incentive programs where they allocate Cause Cards that aren’t related to volunteering or giving (i.e., new employee rewards, campaign participant programs, etc.).
Incentive An Incentive is a type of grant. It will always be funds provided by the client for the employee to designate to the charity of choice. Typically, these grants are used as incentives for volunteer participation. However, some clients have one-off incentive programs where they allocate Incentives that aren’t related to volunteering or giving (i.e., new employee rewards, campaign participant programs, etc.). Note that the employee does not need to make a donation in order to qualify for this type of grant. Additionally, incentives are not the same thing as a match.

 

Corporate grants

This is a corporate grant to your organization. Either a donor or a member of your organization filled out an application and was awarded this grant.
