To help find gift records, your organization may assign unique identifiers — up to 50 alphanumeric characters — when you add gifts. You can view a gift's ID at the top of its record or in the Gift ID field under Gifts and marketing codes.
Tip: From Configuration in the database view, your organization can choose whether to generate sequential numeric gift IDs. To automatically assign IDs when you add gifts, select Generate IDs under Business Rules and then select Gift IDs.
To track characteristics of the gift such as whether it qualifies for special benefits or was given in person, your organization may assign it a short code or ID.

For information about the marketing effort used to solicit the gift, track the alphanumeric source code that identifies details such as its list, offer, package, media, and segment.
To help determine the success rate of a marketing effort, track the identification number of the specific piece of mail that resulted in the gift.
To identify which marketing efforts the donor responded to, track the unique, sequential number assigned to identify the mailing's recipient.
Tip: In the database view, you can manage the gift's marketing and tracking codes on the Miscellaneous tab of the gift's record.
