Requirements and Examples

SMS approval requires your privacy policy and terms and conditions to include specific statements. Ensure your content includes the required statements described below and shown in examples.

The links you provide during configuration must be complete (not drafts), and published on a secure (HTTPS) site. Do not submit "Coming soon" pages or Google Docs.

Privacy Policy Requirements

Sharing or selling SMS opt‑in data results in rejection and is the most common cause of carrier denial. Include a statement that SMS opt‑in data and consent are not shared with third parties for marketing purposes.

If your policy includes data-sharing disclosures unrelated to SMS, include a clarifying statement that the SMS program does not share this data. For example: "All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt‑in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties."

Sample Privacy Policy for SMS

"We do not share SMS opt-in information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share information with our service provider who assist in SMS delivery. To opt out, reply "STOP" to any message. For assistance, reply "HELP."

Terms and Conditions Requirements

Your SMS terms and conditions must clearly describe the SMS program. These may be standalone or included within your general terms, as long as SMS content is clearly identified.

Include the following elements:

  • Types of messages sent (for example, marketing and solicitation)

  • Message frequency (for example, "Message frequency is up to 8 message engagements per year." )

    Tip: Match the message frequency in your terms with the configuration selected in Engagement options.

  • Notice that message and data rates may apply

  • A reference or link to your privacy policy

  • Opt-in, opt-out, and support instructions (START, STOP, HELP)

  • Your organization’s brand name

Sample Terms & Conditions for SMS

"By opting in to receive SMS messages from <your organization's brand name>, you will receive messages related to marketing and solicitation. Message frequency is up to 8 message engagements per year. Message and data rates may apply. Reply START to opt in, STOP to opt out, or HELP for support. See our <privacy policy> for details on data handling."
