Set Up Write-In Designations

Let donors type in a fund or program to support when it isn't already listed on your donation form. Instead of abandoning the gift or picking a mismatched designation, donors select Other (Specify) and describe what they want to support, up to 255 characters. The gift is written to a single fund you choose, with the donor's text stored in a custom field so you can review and reassign it in the gift batch.

Set Up the Write-In Designation and Custom Gift Field

Before you enable write-in designations for any donation form, complete this one-time set up.

  1. From Settings, select Tools.

  2. From Form settings, select Update under Write-in designations.

  3. Under Custom field, select the text-type custom gift field to store the donor's written-in text.

  4. Under Write-in designation, select the designation to use for the write-in designations.

Note: If you choose an inactive fund, the gift will have a batch exception to correct before approving the batch.

  5. Select Save.

Enable Write-In Designations for a Form

After you complete the setup for write-in designations and the custom gift field, enable write-in designations for a Standard or Optimized Donation Form.

Review Write-In Designations in a Gift Batch

Gifts with a write-in designation are written to the fund you configured in Settings. If you chose an inactive fund, batch displays an exception for the gift. To clear the exception, review the donor's written-in text in the custom gift field, then reassign the gift to the correct fund before you approve the batch.
