Administrative Role Email Addresses
To maintain favorable reputations with mailbox providers, our system reviews recipient lists and automatically suppresses email addresses for various reasons. For example, we suppress email addresses for administrative roles such as webmaster@, hostmaster@, sales@, support@, and postmaster@ because mailbox providers and blocklist companies can use them as spam traps to identify senders who don’t follow best practices.
Administrative role addresses are popular spam traps because they’re not associated with individuals and are almost never found on opt-in lists. Sending to them can seriously hurt your delivery because they result in higher bounce rates, increased unsubscribe requests, and decreased delivery and engagement rates.
They can also increase your spam complaint rate. Since they’re typically managed by groups of people, multiple people can mark a single message as spam and cause the mailbox provider to block future messages from your organization.
