Credit Card Updater

Credit Card Updater helps prevent disruptions in recurring giving by keeping your supporters' credit cards up to date. It runs automatically for all Blackbaud Merchant Services accounts and is included in your standard rate.

When new card details are available, Credit Card Updater securely updates the card in your Blackbaud solution. This reduces the loss of recurring payments and saves time on donor outreach and data entry.

Credit Card Updater reviews card details in real time when cardholders submit payments. For stored cards, it regularly checks for updates from card issuers. For example, if an expired card is on file for a recurring gift, Credit Card Updater updates the card when the card issuer provides the new expiration date.

Note: Blackbaud partners with Visa Account Updater, Mastercard Automatic Billing Updater, Discover Network Account Updater, and American Express Cardrefresher to deliver this service, which is widely used in the business-to-consumer industry. Only credit cards issued by banks that participate in the service are eligible for updates.

View updated card details

To view updated card details from the web portal, from Reports, select Credit card updater. The report displays the total number of cards updated in the last 90 days.

To change the date range or filter by card type (such as Visa), select Filter. To view or hide columns, select Columns. To export the data to a CSV file, select Export.

For each updated card, the report displays:

  • Account holder's name

  • Date of the update

  • Previous and updated expiration dates

  • Previous and updated last four card digits

  • Status of the last update

Your Blackbaud solution uses the latest card info on file with Blackbaud Merchant Services, even if updates are not yet reflected in your solution. Some Blackbaud solutions provide additional reports mid-month. For more information, choose your solution:
