Credit Card Updater

Credit Card Updater from Blackbaud Merchant Services helps prevent disruptions in recurring giving by keeping your supporters' credit cards up to date. It automatically runs for all Blackbaud Merchant Services accounts and is included in your standard rate.

When new card info is available, Credit Card Updater securely updates the card in your Blackbaud solution. This minimizes the loss of recurring payments and saves you significant time on donor outreach and data entry.

Credit Card Updater reviews card details in real time when cardholders submit payments. For stored cards, it frequently checks for updates from card issuers. For example, if an expired card is on file for a recurring gift, Credit Card Updater automatically updates the card when the card issuer notifies us of the new expiration date.

Note: Blackbaud partners with Visa Account Updater, Mastercard Automatic Billing Updater, Discover Network Account Updater, and American Express Cardrefresher to deliver the service, which is widely used in the business-to-consumer industry. Only credit cards issued by banks who participate in the service are eligible for updates.

To view updated card details from the Blackbaud Merchant Services Web Portal, under Reports, select Credit card updater.

The report displays the total number of cards updated within the last 90 days. To change the date range or to view only certain card types, such as Visa, select Filter. To view or hide info, select Columns. To export the data to a CSV file, select Export.

For each updated card, the report displays:

  • The account holder's name

  • The date of the update

  • The previous and updated expiration dates

  • The previous and updated last four card digits

Your Blackbaud solution uses the latest card info on file with Blackbaud Merchant Services, even if updates are not yet reflected in your solution. Some Blackbaud solutions provide additional reports, which are available mid-month. For more information, choose your solution from the following list:
