How do I know if my solution uses new checkout or classic Blackbaud Checkout?
See Support by Solution under Checkout Overview.
How does new checkout handle fraud settings such as AVS and CSC levels?
New checkout always uses industry best practice settings for AVS levels, CSC levels, and supported card types. As a result, new checkout overrides these settings you configure from Account configurations in the web portal.
Why does new checkout require CSC?
A card security code (CSC), sometimes referred to as the CVV (card verification value), is the three‑ or four‑digit security code printed on a payment card. New checkout requires the CSC because it gives issuers stronger signals to evaluate a transaction. Better signals can lead to higher approval rates and fewer unnecessary declines.
CSC isn't treated as a simple pass/fail requirement — instead, issuers evaluate CSC alongside many other risk signals.
For example:
-
A returning supporter makes a small donation from a familiar device and location. Even if the CSC result is inconclusive, the issuer may still approve the donation based on other low‑risk signals.
-
A first‑time donor makes a large donation from a new location. In that case, the issuer may rely more heavily on the CSC result and decline the transaction if it does not match.
Providing a CSC improves the quality of payment data sent for authorization. It doesn't guarantee approval, but it helps issuers make better decisions.
Note: Because CSC is a required security control in new checkout, it can't be turned off
Does the Blackbaud SKY Payments API support integrating with new checkout?
