Segmentation
YourCause’s segmentation feature gives clients the ability to group users by common attributes (i.e. business unit or site) and configure a unique user experience for each of these groups. Industry data shows that individuals of different generations, locations and cultures have varying preferences for how they want to give their time and money. Admins can use segmentation to easily manage and promote local programs, initiatives and guidelines within a global community.
Note: One segment can be used across different segmentable features. For example, if UK employees have different branding, Giving Campaigns, and engagement elements than US employees do, these are just two segments (UK employees and US employees).
You may choose to use segmentation to:
-
Segment by brand: Align branding and design to the sub-brands within your larger company.
-
Segment by user type: Give active employees access to all features, while retired or former employees may only retain access to a few.
Segment configuration
Your segments are defined by combinations of employee attributes from your HR file. Work with your Implementation Manager or Customer Success Manager to configure your segments.
This process includes:
-
Defining which HR file attributes will be used to create segments
-
Choosing settings and features to differentiate by segment
-
UAT testing and adjustment period
-
Production testing
The configuration process timing will vary due to the number of segments, the complexity of your configuration, and the current availability of needed data in your HR file.

Non-segmentable features
The following features cannot be segmented:
-
Permissions: Permissions cannot be segmented at this time. For example, an admin with permission to approve events will see all events, including those from other segments.
-
Reports: General reporting is not segmentable. However, our Giving Campaign reports can be viewed by segment if you have created a campaign per-segment.
-
Non-HR users: Manually added users cannot be added to a segment. All users in a segment must be on the HR file with the attributes required for the segment.
