User Privacy Settings
After the platform manager sets profile publish access, each user can go to their profile to configure some of their own privacy settings. Managers can also update a user's privacy settings on the user's behalf.
-
Select Core
-
Use the People finder to access the profile page for an individual.
-
Select Settings to view and manage their privacy settings.
As a user, you can update your own settings to control which personal information is published to the online community. From the top navigation menu, select your name, Settings, Privacy. When you select options to customize the publish settings, changes are saved automatically. The options available may vary based on how your school has configured the site.
To undo your custom settings, select Reset to default, which returns your privacy settings to the default settings your school configure for your security role(s).
Tip: When a manager changes a user’s security roles, any profile publish settings that no longer apply will be removed from the user’s view during an overnight refresh. If you see a setting for a role that was recently removed, re-check your profile privacy settings the next day.
For each user role who could potentially see information about you, select which information about you users with that role should see. For example, you may want to enable certain staff to see more information than students.
-
Do not include my name, or any information about me in the directory
A platform manager can disable this option when they set profile publish access. Thus, some people might not see this option. If this option is available and a user selects it, the user will not appear in school directory search results. The user's name will still appear in rosters but won't be a clickable link to their profile.
-
Include my name, but do not include any other information about me
If selected, the user's name appears in the directory search results, but the name is not a clickable link to their profile. -
Include my name and use my General Settings for what other people should see about me
If selected, the user can select which information to should be visible to other individuals. The user can also select which roles to share information to and which fields are appropriate for each role. For example, a user might share more information with faculty and less information with parents or students.
Tip: Most schools don't engage in targeted advertizing and they don't sell (or share) user data. However, if you do, it is your responsibility to ensure your actions don't violate the user's preferences as indicated by this information and that you comply with privacy laws in the United States of America.
A platform manager can update a user's preferences on their behalf. A platform manager can select to exclude a user's personal data from:
-
Sale of information
-
Targeted advertising
This information is not visible to users when they view their own profile and they can't update it themselves within Core. However, users can configure their internet browser's global privacy settings to indicate they want to opt out.
Blackbaud Education Management "listens" for global privacy settings indicated by user's browser and updates these selections in Core when an opt out is detected. The selection remains as "opt out" until the user explicitly chooses to "opt in."
Any change (including changes due to the browser settings) will appear in Handle Profile Changes for your school to review.
If your school engages in the sale or sharing of information to third parties, or uses data for targeted advertising, list managers can generate a list or export of users who want to opt-out. From the Users list in Core, select to include the Sale of information and Targeted advertising fields as columns to show.
Tip: Blackbaud doesn't sell (or share) user data to third parties either and doesn't engage in targeted advertizing. Even if the user has indicated that don't object to the use of their data for sale, share, or ads, Blackbaud still prioritizes privacy and doesn't use the data in those ways.
