Race types (table values)

By default, values required by the National Association of Independent Schools are setup as active Race types. Platform managers can change them.

  1. Select Core.

  2. Select Users.

  3. Select User profile settings.

  4. Select Race types.

    • To create a new value, select +Add and enter a descriptive name for the type. Then select Save or Save and add another.

    • To rename a race type, find its row and select the ellipsis (...). Then select Edit. Enter a different descriptive name for the type and select Save.

    • To reorder how race types appear in drop down menus, select Reorder. Use the double-ended-arrow at the start of each value's row to drag and drop them into the desired order. Alternatively, select Top to move a value to the top of the menu options.

    • If a race type should be used in imports, and appear as an option in menus and profiles, mark its status as Active for the Status. If it should no longer be used, select Inactive. To do this, find its row and (...). Next, select Edit and choose (In)Active. Then select Save & close.

    • If a race type is unused, you can remove it. At the start of the value's row, select the ellipsis (...) and Delete. Then Confirm the change.

Tip: To add or edit an individual's race, go to Core and use the People finder to access a user's Contact card . Then edit their Citizenship/Resident information.

Race versus ethnicity

We recommend schools use Races instead of (or in addition to) Ethnicity . Information for both fields appears on Contact cards under Citizenship/Resident information.

Schools can select multiple Races for individuals, which enables schools to more accurately track demographic information. Conversely, you can only select a single Ethnicity for each user. Thus, the Ethnicity field may not fully describe multiracial individuals.

To quickly copy information from Ethnicity into Races in bulk, use the Student list or User list to export Ethnicity information. Include columns for

  • user ID,

  • first name,

  • last name,

  • and ethnicity.

Then run a Data import to upload the information to Races. Imported values must exactly match existing race types. You must set up race types before you run the Data import.

  • Use the General data import to add a single race value to individual profiles. Use it to remove all race values from an individual via the upward chevon or caret ^ symbol.

  • Use the Races data import from the User management category to import multiple races for individuals.

After you update records in bulk, edit the appropriate user profiles to select additional Races.

Note: Reports which originally used Ethnicity were converted to use Racesinstead. The Races field is also available on enrollment and school Forms for data entry purposes.
