Name Pronunciation

Name pronunciation gives users and administrators the ability to record an audio sample of how their name is pronounced. The recording is then added to their profile page next to their name as an audio icon where anyone can select it to listen to the audio sample.

Note: Name Pronunciation impacts each of the Blackbaud Education management products: Core, Enrollment management, Billing management, and Academics (LMS and SIS).

To enable this feature, platform managers and administrators will need to enable it under Core.

  1. Under Security, select Profile Access.

  2. From View/edit profile fields, Name Pronunciation can be found under the User fields.

  3. Edit the page to update the setting. Selecting No removes access completely, View allows them to only see it, while Yes also gives them edit access.

  4. If needed, adjust the settings on Profile publish access and Profile relationship access as well.

For users with access to this feature, they can edit their Name Pronunciation by selecting their profile from the top right of the page.

Under General Information from the Contact Card, select Edit and then Name Pronunciation. A new modal appears with the ability for the user to record an audio sample of how to say their name. Some users may also need to grant the web browser access when prompted to use their microphone.

Note: The recording may take up to a minute to become available on the profile.

Once the audio sample is recorded, the user can play it back, record it again, or completely delete it. The audio recording then appears on the user’s profile page as an icon after their full name. Click on the audio icon to hear the recording play.

Administrators can also set up and create name pronunciation recordings as well.

  1. From a user’s profile, select Contact card and then under General Information, select Edit and then Name formats.

  2. Administrators with access will see a link under Preferred name called Name Pronunciation. Select Edit name pronunciation to begin.

  3. The same Name Pronunciation modal appears allowing the administrator to record, play back, and delete as necessary.
