Import Assignments

Teachers can import Assignments, Assessments, and Graded discussions from their past or current classes, and, if allowed, from other teacher's classes.

Teachers manage which other teachers , if any, are allowed to import their assignments in their Preferences.

Note: Importing creates a new instance of an assignment that is not linked to the original assignment. Changes made to the new or original instance of the assignment do not affect the other.

Teachers can give access to other teachers to import their assignments through their Preferences in the Assignment Center.

  1. In the Faculty persona, select My Day, then Assignment Center.

  2. In list view, select More, then Preferences. In calendar view, select Preferences.

    Tip: You can also access Preferences from the Assignments tab on class pages or by selecting More, then Preferences within your gradebook.

  3. Under Assignment imports, choose from the following options:

    • Do not allow others to import your assignments

    • Allow all teachers to import your assignments

    • Allow selected teachers to import your assignments

      • Select the teachers that can import your assignments.

  1. Select Save.

You can import assignments from the list view of the Assignment Center or class pages.

  1. In Faculty,

    select My Day, then Assignment Center.

    OR
    select Classes, choose a class, then select Assignments.

  2. Ensure you are in list view.

    Tip: Use the grid and list icons grid view and list view icons to switch between views.

  3. Select More then Import Assignments.

  4. On the Import these assignments step, use the available filters to search for the assignments you want to import. Filters include:

    • School year

    • Teacher

    • Section

    • Marking period (gradebook marking period)

    Note: If your school does not use Gradebook, the Marking period filter will be blank and will not be needed to search for assignments.

  5. From the list, select the assignments to import and then select Next.

    Note: If you select an assessment created with the old assessment builder, you will receive a message explaining that importing the assessment will convert it to the new assessment experience. Any embedded media in questions, audio files, and the Allow Save for Later setting will not convert and must be manually updated in the new copy of the assessment. You will also need to publish the new copy of the assessment and set it to Ready for taking before students can begin the assessment. See Convert Assessments for more information.

  6. Under Import to these sections, use the available filters to search for the class section(s) you would like to add these assignments to. Filters include:

    • School year

    • School level

    • Marking period (gradebook marking period)

    Note: If you want the assignment you are importing to be included in the gradebook, you will need to use the gradebook Marking period filter. If your school does not use Gradebook, the gradebook Marking period filter will be blank and will not be needed to search for class sections.

  7. From the list, select the class sections you would like to add the selected assignment(s) to and then select Next.

  8. On the Set dates and published status step, you will set Assigned date/time, Due date/time, and the Publish status for each assignment you are importing.

    Or you can set this information for multiple assignments at once by selecting the checkbox next to the assignments you want to update, then select Bulk adjust selected assignments and enter the Assigned date, Assigned time, Due date, Due time, and Publish status. Select Apply to update the selected assignments.

    Note: The Assigned date and Due date must be within the start and end dates for the selected gradebook marking period, which are displayed under Marking period for reference.

  9. Select Save and close when finished.

If a school does not use gradebook, teachers will not see Launch gradebook on their class pages, but they can still import assignments with the following minor differences in the process:

  • Teachers will not see a gradebook Marking period filter.

  • The Assigned and Due dates for any imported assignments will need to fall within the begin and end dates for the selected school year.

    Note: For reference, the begin and end dates for the school year will be listed on the Set dates and publish statuses step under School year.

Teachers at schools using Mastery can import Mastery-only and Hybrid assignments. They can import these assignments using the steps above but will should be aware of the following:

  • Skills attached to Mastery or Hybrid assignments will import to new course sections with the assignment as long as the new course is associated with those skills.

  • You will need to edit any assignments with missing or no skills to add skills as needed. If an imported assignment has missing skills, it will be listed on the Missing skills dialogue box once you finish your import. You can use Export list to export this information.

  • Hybrid assignments imported to courses that are Mastery-only will import as Mastery-only assignments.
