Database View Security Groups

In addition to web view access, every user needs to be linked to:

  • A user in database view

  • One or more security groups from database view

When you're creating a new user in web view, you'll either link them to an existing user or create a new user. The following subjects are discussed on this page:

Note: For more detail on the interactions between roles and security groups, see Web view users and security groups.

What Are Web and Database Views?

Your solution includes two views:

  • Web view: The latest version of the solution you access from your browser

  • Database view: The version of the solution you use Citrix to access

Link to Existing User

If your user already exists in database view, you'll want to link to an existing user:

  1. Under Security groups, select Link to existing user.

  2. Search for a user. If you can't find them, they either don't exist or are already linked to another user.

  3. Next to Security groups, select Edit.

  4. Select one or more security groups.

  5. Select Send invite. Once you've successfully linked a user, you'll see the email address associated with their Blackbaud ID in the Raiser's Edge NXT accountFinancial Edge NXT account column.

Once you've linked these users, they'll be able to sign in and access your solution.

Note: In the database view, the user’s profile defaults to the Windows authentication setting so that they only need their Blackbaud ID to access both the web and database views.

Tip: For more info about invitations and troubleshooting advice, see User invitation process.

Create a New User

If your user doesn't exist in database view, you'll want to create a new user:

  1. Under Security groups, select Create a new user.

  2. Choose one or more security groups.

  3. Select Send invite. Once you've successfully linked a user, you'll see the email address associated with their Blackbaud ID in the Raiser's Edge NXT accountFinancial Edge NXT account column.

Once you've created and linked these users, they'll be able to sign in and access your solution.

Note: In the database view, the user’s profile defaults to the Windows authentication setting so that they only need their Blackbaud ID to access both the web and database views.

Tip: For more about invitations and troubleshooting advice, see User invitation process.

Web View Users and Security Groups

Even if a user only needs access to web view, they need to be connected to a database view user and database view security groups.

Each part of this connection controls a different aspect of the user experience:

  • Roles:

  • Database view security groups:

    • Control access to and privileges within database view

    • Controls access to specific records and information across web and database view

  • Database view user:

    • Provides access to database view (if needed)

    • Assigned one or more security groups
