Select the grading view that best fits your workflow. Use Student view to review submissions individually, or use Class view to enter grades for multiple students efficiently.

By default:

  • Assignments with in-system submissions or assignments linked to an LTI open in Student view, which provides more space to view submissions and LTI tools.

  • Assignments without in-system submissions open in Class view for efficient grade entry.

Student View

  • In Student view, use the dropdown in the upper-right corner to select a student. Use the arrow buttons to move to the next or previous student.

  • Icons can appear next to a student's name in the dropdown to indicate submission or evaluation status:

    • - A teacher has entered a grade, comment, skill evaluation, indicator (e.g. Exempt, Missing) or attached a file for the student, but the entry has not been committed.

    • - The Missing indicator has been marked and committed.

    • Note: The Missing indicator takes priority over committed grades. If a student has both a committed grade and a committed Missing indicator, the Missing icon displays for the student until it is cleared and committed.

    • - A teacher has committed a grade, comment, skill evaluation, or file attachment for the student.

    • - The student has submitted text, file submission, or LTI upload.

Tip: Select More, See key to view icon details in Student or Class view.

  • You can annotate file submissions directly from Student view.

  • Class view is like Gradebook, but it displays only one assignment at a time.

  • Use the down arrow at the bottom of the assignment column header to change the student sort order or view the assignment Performance summary.

Commit Grades to Gradebook

Evaluations are not visible to students or parents until you commit them to Gradebook. Changes to committed evaluations are also not visible until you commit the changes.

For example, if you commit a comment, then delete it, you must commit the deletion to remove the comment from student and parent view.

Note: Annotations on file submissions are visible to students and parents immediately and do not need to be committed. For more information, see Assignment Annotations.

To commit grades:

  • Select Commit evaluations at the top of the page to commit all evaluations.

  • In Student view, select Commit evaluation on the bottom left to commit only the current student's evaluation.

  • In Class view, select Commit [#]at the top of the grade or skill column.

With "Marked as" indicators, you designate student work as the following:

  • Collected: Tracks received student work. When committed, the Collected indicator updates the student's view of their assignment status to Completed.

  • Exempt: Excludes the assignment from the student's cumulative grade calculation.

  • Incomplete: Student has not completed the assignment.

  • Missing: Student has not submitted the assignment. In the student's Assignment Center, the assignment displays under Missing or Overdue in calendar view and in Missing assignments in list view.
