Sales Tax in Receivables

Track sales tax with the transactions you bill in Receivables. You can record sales tax with a charge, credit, or invoice line item, or record sales tax as a standalone transaction.

When sales tax is linked to a transaction, the tax amount calculates and adds a separate sales tax record. The linked records make it easy to open the transaction from its sales tax record or the sales tax record from its transaction.

Note: Sales tax is in Limited Availability (LA) and is releasing in waves. During LA, we'll review and implement participant feedback as we prepare for general availability.

Linked Sales Tax

Use linked sales tax when a charge, credit, or invoice line item is subject to sales tax.

  1. In Sales tax, select a sales tax billing item.

  2. In Sales tax amount, review the calculated tax amount.

  3. Save the transaction.

The tax is recorded as a separate record, and the sales tax record links to the parent transaction. You can open either record from the other.

Standalone Sales Tax

Use standalone sales tax when you need to record sales tax without a parent transaction.

  1. Select a billing item with the Sales tax type as the billing item for a charge, credit, or invoice line item.

  2. In Amount, enter the tax.

The amount is distributed across the billing item's entities. The sales tax record is added without a parent transaction or linked record, and Sales tax isn't available. Standalone sales tax doesn't depend on the client's tax status or the Sales tax business rule.

For invoices, the totals under Line items show Invoice subtotal, Sales tax, and Total amount. A standalone sales tax line item is included in Sales tax and Total amount, but not Invoice subtotal.
