Create a News Article content type for your site. Create a root category called News Article Topics with subcategories such as World, Metro, and Business. Add a drop-down menu based on the News Article Topics category to the content type Properties step. The menu is populated with the root category's subcategories.
An author creating a News Article item may now select a topic to categorize and describe the item. Categorizing individual items this way allows detailed fine-tuning of lists of news articles, using content filters.
For example, your World news page (or the page for a single World news article) can be configured to display a dynamic list of all live World news articles on your site. To do this, a site author inserts a List Template component on the page. The component uses a content filter to display in the list only news articles that have been assigned the (sub)category World.
