List Properties Dialog Box Fields
The List Properties dialog displays when you insert or edit a List component.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Choose a type of document to list | Choose a content type from the menu. |
Choose a list template Required |
Select the list display template that you want to control the appearance of this component. If no list template is available for the content type you chose, your Website Administrator must create one. To allow this list to be paginated when necessary, select a template that includes pagination. This is usually indicated in the template title, such as Primary List Display Template with Pagination. For details, see Using the Pagination Control Component. |
Filter documents by criteria Required |
Select a content filter to limit the list contents. If no filter exists for the content type you chose, click New Filter to create one, or click Browse Filters. Although a filter is required, you do not have to define further restraints (such as by category or folder). You can use a "wide open" filter that does not exclude any items of this content type. The List component can display up to a maximum of 5000 items. If the filter returns more than 5000 items, only 5000 will display. |
New Filter | Click to create a new content filter. |
Browse Filters | Click to browse existing filters. In the Content Filters dialog, highlight a filter in the left pane, then click Select. From this dialog you can also edit or delete a content filter. |
Sort documents by | Use to sort the list by certain properties defined for this content type, including Title, Description, or custom properties, as well as publication and expiration date range. You cannot sort by all properties. For instance, you cannot sort by fields based on content categories. |
Limit size of list to | Enter the total number of items that will display, including all paginated pages. For example, if you have 100 items, you can enter 50 in this field and 10 for Page Size, resulting in five paginated pages. The List component can display up to a maximum of 5000 items. |
Page size | Enter the maximum number of items that this list can display per page. If the number is less than the total you entered in the field Limit size of list to, the list may extend to multiple pages -- as long as the list template that you chose includes pagination. (If it does not, your Website Administrator can add the Pagination component.) |
Stylesheet | Select a style sheet to use with this component instance, from the style sheets your Website Administrator has assigned to the List component. (There might be only one style sheet.) |
Advanced button Optional |
Advanced filtering options are only available if the Properties step for the selected content type includes fields that are based on content categories or related items. Click this button to open the List Related dialog and set advanced filtering options for the list using content categories, related items, or both. In this dialog you can also assign a unique prefix to this list, which is used with the Filter Criteria or Pagination Control components. For full details, see Using Prefixes with Lists. |
