To set the site-wide default component configuration

Insert the component. Depending on the component, you can insert it into a display template, a wrapper, or a web page (for the latter you must also be a folder Author or Manager). You may wish to maintain "site default" components in a unique location, such as a wrapper that you title Wrapper for Site Default Components.
Tip: To insert a component, select the icon in the content editor:

In the component properties dialog, select the option, Use these settings as the default.
Note: For a component inserted in a web page, the option is only visible to Website Administrators.
Each subsequent occurrence of that component starts with the default configuration. For example, if you select the default option in an Include component, that Include becomes the default Include for the entire site. The default configuration can still be overridden by a site author (folder Author or Manager) for an individual instance of that component.
Certain components such as Document List, E-Card, and Related Links cannot have default settings and never display the option. Each instance of these components is unique and configured from scratch when inserted.
