To create an interest category:

  1. Click Constituent360 > Interests.

  2. Click Create a New Interest Category.

  3. Complete the configuration options for the interest:

    • Enter a Name that displays to constituents when they opt-in or opt-out.

    • Enter a Description such as, "All health-related content." The description displays on your administrative list page but isn't visible to constituents.

    • Select a Security Category to determines which users can see this interest and which administrators can manage it.

    • Select one of the following options from the Parent Interest menu:

      • Top Level - Serves as a first-level interest.

      • Email Interest - Serves as an email interest that is also a child interest.

      • Web Interest - Serves as a web interest that is also a child interest.

    • Interest Type - Choose either email opt-in or web content. Email interests show up only in email applications (such as Email Campaigns). Web interests are available when configuring or presenting news articles, photo albums, calendar events, surveys, TeamRaisers, or products.

    • Default Interest - Select to make this a default interest for all registered users. The interest will be automatically selected on their Special Interests page (although, they can change it).

Note: Using the default option makes the interest "implied" for all constituents. Constituents see this interest checked on their User Profiles. If they remove a default interest, or save their Profile without removing the interest, then the "implied" interest becomes "explicit" whether opted in or out.

    • Create Interest Group - When selected, constituents that opt-in for the interest are added to an opt-in group.

Note: If the interest is a default (implied) interest, then the opt-in group built has all constituents in it. In general, do not create opt-in groups for default interests.

    • Create Opt-out Group - When selected, constituents that opt-out for the interest are added to an opt-out group.

  4. Click Save.

If you created a web interest, you can assign news articles, surveys, calendar events, TeamRaisers, products, and photo albums to the interest category. If this is an email interest, you can associate it with an email campaign. The category is available to registered constituents on their Special Interests or Email Preferences selection page.

Note: The group names include a unique Interest ID number, not to be confused with the unique Group ID for each that can be found on the Group Info page. Clicking these links takes you directly to the Group Members page for each.
