Interest Categories: Email Communications
Associating an email campaign with an interest category serves as an easy way to reach a group that definitely is interested in a topic. It can also help you avoid sending communications to those who are not interested in certain topics—especially if you tend to communicate on a variety of topics.
You can create an email interest category from within the Interests application or directly in the Email Campaign application. Once an email interest category is created, your constituents have the opportunity, on their email preferences page or their special interests page (depending on the configuration you are using), to indicate whether they would like to receive email about that topic. If you place an email campaign in an interest category, the campaign automatically contains one audience group in the 'Targets' list for the group of people who have opted-in and one audience group in the 'Do Not Mail' list for the group of people who have explicitly opted-out of that email interest. You can, of course, target additional groups with your campaign.
