Group Assignment Upload

The Group Assignment Upload operation enables you to associate group membership from an offline database, spreadsheet, or other application with existing Luminate Online constituents to keep the original group intact or to create groups for a set purpose, such as an email campaign. Using this method to create groups is helpful when a query will not work because the common factor among the constituents is not in the contact record fields.

Before you can use this upload, the group members must already exist in the Constituent360 database. Therefore, it may be necessary to run a Constituent Data Upload first to ensure that all the group members are in your Luminate Online database.

Note: With the Release of Luminate Online Version 5.1.0, you can include a Luminate Online Group ID field in the Constituent Data Upload CSV file -- often eliminating the need for a separate Group Assignment Upload operation.

The CSV file for the Group Assignment upload must contain the primary email addresses or the Member IDs of the group members for matching with their Constituent360 contact records. The upload file must also contain one of the following:

  • The Name of the Group to which you would like to assign the constituents: If you include the Name field and the Group you specify exists, the constituents are assigned to that Group; if the named Group is not found, a new Group will be created and the constituent will be assigned to that new Group, or

  • The Group ID of the Group to which you are assigning each constituent. You can either specify the Luminate Online Group ID in the upload file, or use the offline group ID and cross-reference that offline group ID to a Luminate Online Group ID before submitting the upload. This approach requires that you create the Group in Luminate Onlinebefore you perform the upload.
