Promotion Codes in Online Giving
You can associate a promotion code with a giving level and then use it to control who will see that level. If you specify the promotion code in the URL when you link to the donation form, the level is visible only to people who click the link. Otherwise, the level is not visible on the form.
You may find promotion codes useful if you are associating a premium with a level and have a limited number of items available.
You'd like to offer the opportunity to attend a pre-gala reception to those who give at your highest giving level, but you need to limit the number of attendees. For that reason, you associate your highest giving level on your Annual Giving form with a promotion code. You link to the form from your Web site without including the promotion code in the link. At the same time, however, you prepare an email to your highest donors and include the promotion code in the link that you place in the email. The email recipients will see the top level of giving and also see the premium that you have associated with the level (or you can simply discuss the perks of giving at that level in the email).
Note: Promotion codes used in the above exapmle are not secure. For example, if the email recipients in the above example forward their message to someone else, they can see the giving level, causing the number of attendees to exceed the limit.
