Import Content

A site that would like to import syndicated content from another site must establish an affiliate relationship with that site and then set up a Content Import task to accomplish the import of pages. Once imported, pages can then be previewed in the Imported Content List window. A site can reuse imported content on its own site by making use of the Imported Content Component in the HTML editor.

Establish an Affiliate Record for the Site

A Luminate-powered site that wishes to import content from another Luminate-powered site must first create an Affiliate Record for that site. This process requires that you know the internal SITE_ID of the exporting site.

  1. Select Setup on the navigation bar and then click Affiliate Content in the drop-down menu that displays.

  2. On the Affiliate Setup page that opens, click Create a new Affiliate Record.

  3. On the Create Affiliate Record page, leave the protocol set to 'Blackbaud-powered site.' No other protocols are supported by the application.

  4. Enter the Affiliate ID of the site from which you would like to import content. This is the internal SITE_ID of the Blackbaud-powered site. (You will need to obtain this ID from the administrators at the site that is making its content available to you.)

Note: Do not enter a Name or site URL for Blackbaud-powered sites.

  5. Click Save. If the affiliate site is accessible, it will now appear in the list of affiliates that displays.

  6. Repeat this process for any other site that you would like to import content from.

Create a Task to import content

Once you have established an affiliate record for a site that has made syndicated content available, you must set up a task to import their content. When setting up the task, you will specify the site and the specific channels (topics) you would like to import from that site. You will also choose a regular period of time (daily or weekly) for running that task.

  1. Choose Data Management on the navigation bar and then click Tasks in the drop-down menu that displays:

  2. On the page that opens, select the Task List tab.

  3. Click the link to Create a New Task. This action opens the list of Task Types.

  4. Select the Content Importer link.

  5. On the Task Information page that opens, enter a Name and Description for the task.

  6. Mark the task as Active.

  7. In the Site drop-down menu, select the name of the site from which you would like to import content and then click Choose. The Channel Categories for the Affiliate Site should now appear.

  8. Choose one or more Channel Categories (topics) for your import task. (You should also have the choice of Any Channel.) By choosing channels, you are electing to import any pages that the exporting site has made available on those topics.

  9. Select an Update Interval (daily or weekly) and Save the task. You will be returned to the task list.

  10. Click the Run action to execute the task immediately.

  11. Click the Refresh button to update the Status of the task. When the Last Run Status indicates that the task has completed, you should be able to preview any imported pages as discussed in the next section.

  12. Click the Activate icon so that the task will continue to run according to the schedule you indicated when configuring it.
