Set up the Blackbaud Connector for Anthropic Claude

Setup for the Blackbaud Anthropic Connector is simple, but it requires a few steps to ensure a secure and successful connection. To use the Blackbaud connector, an admin enables the integration on both the Blackbaud and Anthropic sides, and Raiser's Edge NXT users authorize their accounts.

Prerequisites

  • Active Raiser’s Edge NXT instance – You must have an active Raiser’s Edge NXT instance with Blackbaud ID login. Personal Blackbaud accounts or sandbox environments without proper access are not supported.

  • Anthropic Claude account – You need an Anthropic Claude Teams or Enterprise account. The connector does not work with free personal Claude accounts. Ensure your Claude organization owner or admin can add integrations.

Blackbaud Marketplace Admin Setup

Your Marketplace admin needs to connect the Claude for Blackbaud application in the Blackbaud Marketplace. Navigate to the Blackbaud for Claude app in the Blackbaud Marketplace and connect it to your Blackbaud environment. This registers the integration and sets up the necessary API permissions. During installation, approve scopes such as access to constituent and event data.

Claude Admin Setup

  1. From Claude.ai (Anthropic Claude web app), navigate to Settings.

  2. Select Connectors (or Integrations, if labeled differently).

  3. Select Add server or Browse connectors.

  4. Search for and select Blackbaud from the list of available connectors.

  5. Follow the prompts to add the Blackbaud server to your Claude organization. Claude typically auto-fills the server URL and name.

  6. Confirm authorization to enable the Blackbaud integration.

Once complete, the connector is available to all users in your Claude organization.

Raiser's Edge NXT Users Setup

Each user who wants to use the connector must complete these steps:

  1. Log into Claude with your enterprise account.

  2. Go to Settings, Connectors.

  3. Select Blackbaud Connector, then choose Connect or Authorize.

  4. Sign in with your Blackbaud ID and grant permission for Claude to access your data. This uses OAuth 2.0, so Claude accesses data securely without storing your password.

  5. After authorization, your Blackbaud account shows as Linked.

You can now return to Claude and start querying Raiser's Edge NXT data.

Troubleshooting

Connector not visible in Claude – Confirm that your Claude organization admin completed the admin setup. The integration must be added by an admin before users can connect.

OAuth login fails – Verify with your Marketplace admin that the Blackbaud Marketplace app is connected. Ensure you are signing in with the same Blackbaud ID used for Raiser's Edge NXT.

Tip: Personal Blackbaud ID profiles are not supported.
