Opportunity Funding
Track gift amounts for each opportunity to measure effectiveness and determine if it meets expectations.
Ask
The ask amount shows how much you requested when you solicited the donor. Base this amount on your research of the prospect and their likely donation capacity. You may ask for more or less than you expect to receive, based on the donor's wealth capacity or likelihood to donate.
Tip: If you use ResearchPoint, view ratings to help determine the constituent's wealth capacity. For more information, see ResearchPoint Ratings.
Expected
The expected amount provides how much you realistically intend to receive as a result of the opportunity. Use this amount to help forecast projected revenue.
Funded
The funded amount shows how much the donor gave in response to the opportunity. Use this amount to plan additional asks. For example, if you expected to receive $10,000, but received only $5,000, adjust your next solicitation to a more realistic amount.
The funded amount may include any gift type received as a result of the opportunity, including one-time gifts, recurring gifts, cash payments, pledges, matching gift pledges, stock/property gifts, stock/property (sold) gifts, gifts-in-kind, and miscellaneous gifts.
To prevent double-counting, linking a pledge payment or recurring gift payment to an opportunity does not update the Funded amount automatically.
If the opportunity has linked gifts, select the Funded amount to open a flyout listing them.
Committed
The committed amount shows how much has been pledged in gifts linked to the opportunity, calculated from your organization's Giving analysis settings. This amount is for reference only and doesn't change the Funded amount.
If the opportunity has linked gifts, select the Committed amount to open a flyout listing the gifts that contribute to it.
Received
The received amount shows how much has actually been given in gifts linked to the opportunity, calculated from your organization's Giving analysis settings. This amount is for reference only and doesn't change the Funded amount.
If the opportunity has linked gifts, select the Received amount to open a flyout listing the gifts that contribute to it.
Tip: If the Committed or Received amount doesn't display as a link, contact your system admin for rights to view gift lists. This doesn't apply to the Funded amount, which is selectable whenever the opportunity has linked gifts.
Original Ask
The original ask amount and date show the Ask amount and date you first entered when you created the opportunity. If you later update the ask, the original ask amount and date don't change, so you always have a record of what you initially asked for.
Note: For opportunities created before this feature was available, the original ask amount displays as $0.00 until you enter one.
To correct the original ask amount or date — or to add one to an existing opportunity — select More actions, Edit original ask on the opportunity record.
Note: After an opportunity has a funded amount, select See more under Funding to view the original ask.
View these amounts under Funding on an opportunity's record or under Opportunities on the constituent's record. In Work center, use these amounts to filter and analyze your opportunities.
Tip: To analyze total funding amounts of multiple opportunities, such as for a specific time period or purpose, select Analysis, Fundraising dashboards, Opportunities. For more information, see Opportunity analysis.
