Gift Processing Options in Query

Under Options, Gift processing, determine how to apply soft credits and matching gifts in a Gift query. These settings control which gift rows are included in your results and who receives credit for the gift amount, so they can significantly affect your totals and the records your query returns.

Note: These options don't exclude gifts that have no soft credit or matching gift. Instead, they tell Query which constituent to apply credit to when a gift has one. To limit results to only gifts with a soft credit, add a separate filter using the Soft Credits, Soft Credit Recipient ID field with the Not blank operator.

Apply Soft Credits To

Under Credit Soft Credits To, select how to apply credit for gifts that include a soft credit recipient:

  • Donor — Applies credit only to the hard credit donor. The soft credit recipient isn't included for this gift.

  • Recipient — Applies credit only to the soft credit recipient. The hard credit donor isn't included for this gift.

  • Both — Applies credit to both the donor and the soft credit recipient. Query returns a separate row for each.

Because you can split soft credit across multiple recipients, if you select Recipient or Both, also select how to calculate the amount for each constituent:

  • Use amount in grid — Applies only the partial amount each constituent was soft credited.

  • Full amount to all — Applies the full gift amount to each constituent, which can inflate totals if you add the amounts together.

  • Split evenly — Divides the gift amount evenly among all soft credit recipients.

Apply Matching Gifts To

Under Credit Matching Gifts To, select how to apply credit for matching gift pledges and payments:

  • Donor — Applies the matching gift amount to the individual donor who made the original gift.

  • MG Company — Applies the matching gift amount to the company that matched the gift.

  • Both — Applies the amount to both the donor and the matching gift company. Query returns a separate row for each.

How These Options Affect Results

Depending on the combination you select, a single gift can return multiple rows: one for the donor, one for a soft credit recipient, and one or two more for a matching gift pledge or payment. Add the Soft Credit/Matching Gift Flag field to your output to see what each returned row represents, as defined in Soft Credit/Matching Gift Flag. These additional rows follow the same combination rules described in Result Layout.
