Recurring Gift Status
The status controls whether you allow payments to generate according to the schedule in the recurring gift. You can change the status of a recurring gift when the donor needs to temporarily pause payment or cancel their future payments toward the gift. View the status and when it entered its current state in the gift's Recurring gift summary. For more information, see Recurring Gift Payment Processing.
The recurring gift will continue to process future payments.
The recurring gift payments are temporarily paused due to a soft rejection, such as the donor's credit card expiring. Future payments will stop until action is taken. Payments missed while the gift is on hold are never processed unless you manually retry them.
Note: While the gift is On hold, a $0.00 payment appears in a gift batch each time an installment is due. Approve the batch to create a record of the missed payment. You can retry the payment from its record, such as after you update credit card details. For more information, Retry Failed Recurring Gift Payments.
The recurring gift has unexpectedly ended, such as the payment has failed consecutive payments and the donor is not responsive to updates.
The recurring gift ended as planned, such as the donor fulfilling their commitment for a year and their final payment toward the recurring gift has been made.
Note: When you or a donor adds an end date to a recurring gift, payments automatically stop processing after the selected date. However, the gift's status doesn't update to Completed. If you use reports or other processes that are based on gift status, we recommend you manually update the status to Completed.
Tip: Use the statuses to implement custom tailored communication and fundraising strategies to re-engage donors with On hold, Terminated, or Completed gifts on their constituent record.
On a recurring gift's record, you can change its current status.
To update the status of a recurring gift in web view, select Mark as and its status.
Tip: Once you change a status to Completed or Terminated, you cannot change it to Active or On hold.
