Email Consent
To help you easily manage consent, communications you send from Email automatically include a link that recipients can select to unsubscribe from — or opt back into — future messages. When a constituent selects the link:
-
Their record updates the Email channel under Consent to show their response. For more information, see Consent.
-
The status of their primary email address changes to — or from — Do not email
.

In the database view, admins can configure business rules from Configuration, Business Rules, Consent options to automatically update communication preferences when a constituent's consent changes. To set rules for Raiser’s Edge NXT, create a new mapping and select Email in the Channel field and leave the option for Category blank. For more information, see Configure Consent Business Rules.
Note: If you previously used Online Express or Blackbaud NetCommunity to send email and your organization set consent rules, you must also add rules for Raiser’s Edge NXT.
Tip: Want to add communication preferences for recipients who opted out before you set your consent rules? In the database view, use Query to search for constituents who don’t have the solicit code on their record, but do have DNC (Do Not Contact) selected.

Recipients can use the link at the bottom of any message you send to them to opt-out of all messages from your organization.
If someone instead contacts your organization — such as by phone — to opt-out of messages, you can manually unsubscribe them. To suppress a constituent from all messages you send through Email,
You can also suppress individual email addresses for a constituent. This can be helpful if they don't wish to receive email to a specific address, but do want to receive messages to other email addresses. From a constituent's record, under Contact information, select Edit, Email addresses. For each email address you want to suppress, select Mark as do not email .

If a recipient uses the unsubscribe link in an email to unsubscribe from messages, they can use the same link from any of your messages to opt in again.
If they don't have any of your messages, you can submit a support request on their behalf to opt in.
-
From marketing email, open Email options and select the Opt-in tab.
-
Enter the constituent’s email address and select Submit.
-
The constituent will receive an automatically generated email. They must confirm the request by clicking the link in that email.
Note: You may also direct constituents to unblockme.blackbaud.com, a self-service site to remove any blocks on their email address. To learn more about why email addresses may be blocked, see Suppression Criteria.
Note: Opt-in emails are sent from no-reply@blackbaud.com and can't be customized.
