Blackbaud APIs

To connect to the API for Raiser's Edge NXT or Financial Edge NXT:

1. Select Site, Settings, Blackbaud APIs.

2. Select the tab — Raiser's Edge NXT or Financial Edge NXT — for the program you want to connect to.

3. Follow the detailed instructions that display.

If you set up an integration with Financial Edge NXT, you're now able to bring over the following information:

• Project ID

• Project description

• Beginning and ending balances

• Fiscal year and fiscal period

Follow the instructions on Site, Settings, Blackbaud APIs to set up these fields in your system.

Note: At the moment, you're not able to bring over information about project credits or debits.

By default, the Raiser’s Edge NXT API uses a constituent’s giving history to control which funds they are associated with in Blackbaud Stewardship Management (BBSM).

If you don’t want to rely on giving history to associate contacts with funds in BBSM, configure the API to only create and update the contact information. You may use a manual import to associate contacts with funds later as described in Associate contacts with funds manually.

When using the API to import donor contact information, follow these steps if you want to exclude the funds associated with the donor (referred to as Giving History in RE NXT) from being imported.

1. Follow steps 1 through 3 in Connect to Blackbaud APIs to connect to the API for Raiser’s Edge NXT.

2. Go to Site > Settings > Stewardship Contact Imports. On the Configuration tab, you can select the fields to control what data you want imported.

3. Select the Contact UID field that maps to Raiser's Edge Constituent Lookup ID; this ID mapping connects the contacts in RE NXT to existing contacts in BBSM. The mapping also determines if a donor exists in BBSM already and should be updated, or a new donor record needs to be created in Stewardship Management.

To exclude fund associations from being imported, do not select any RE NXT related fields from the Fund Lookup Import Fields section.

You can run a manual contact import to associate contacts with funds in BBSM by following these steps:

1. Go to Site > Settings > Stewardship Contact Imports. On the Configuration tab, map the Fund ID value you want to use to the header from your import file.

2. Ensure your file has at least two columns:

   • Contact UID — ensure the header in the manual import file for Contact UID is raisers_edge_constituent_lookup_id, so that the header matches to contacts coming from the RE NXT API. The spelling and formatting must be exact.

   • Fund ID — a unique identifier for the funds to associate with each contact.

3. Before you import the file, choose Preview to determine if new contacts will be created.

Note: It is recommended that you repeat the manual import periodically to ensure contact and fund associations remain current.
